Volume 7: Dead by Dawn

The unexpected death of their next door neighbor rattles Jason Dark and Siu Lin. But does a woman in good health simply drop dead by dawn? The Geisterjäger is not convinced and suspects something more wicked and sinister is at work in London. As his investigation leads him down to the seedy underbelly of society, things more mysterious than he expected reveal themselves, making it clear that the ghost hunter will need all of his skills and resources to put an end to the horrors that stalk the night.

This is the seventh volume in a series of gothic horror adventures where Jason Dark, a fearless and resourceful ghost hunter, follows in the mold of a Sherlock Holmes combined with Randall Garrett's Lord D'Arcy. Written by Guido Henkel, the designer who brought Germany's famed Das Schwarze Auge series to computer screens, this series is filled with enough mystery, drama and suspenseful action to transport you to the sinister, fog-shrouded streets of Victorian England. Your encounter with the extraordinary awaits.

August 29th, 2010 - It's 1881 and Londoners are dying by the hundreds. Are the large flocks of owls seen overhead the harbingers of more deaths to come? What about the snake oil salesman hawking his wares? Jason Dark and his sidekick, Siu Lu, set out to investigate. This is the sixth Jason Dark volume I've read. Each time I come away thinking they would make a great television series - Dead by Dawn is no exception. Henkel is particularly adept at immersing the reader in the scene. His books are moody and atmospheric, evoking times long past. I also like that each volume can be read as a standalone, yet Jason Dark and Siu Lin's relationship continues to evolve through the series. Highly recommended.
